Mind your candle
Candles are perfect for relaxation and setting the mood, but their flame can be dangerous if not monitored. To enjoy them safely and protect the candle itself, we invite you to read our recommendations below.
Before lighting
- Before lighting the candle, trim the wick to 0.5 cm to ensure optimal performance and prevent uneven burning. This will help keep the flame controlled.
- Make sure there are no wick remnants or objects on the surface of the wax, as this can affect the quality of the burn.
- Place the candle on a horizontal, heat-resistant surface. This not only prevents damage to the surface but also avoids breaking glass containers due to high temperatures.
- Whenever possible, avoid drafts and windy areas. This will help reduce rapid burning and unnecessary dripping, allowing the candle to consume more efficiently.
- Keep the candle lit for a minimum of 2-3 hours each time you use it to ensure an even burn. Always remember to trim the wick before each lighting to maintain the flame in its best condition.
- Use an appropriate lighter that allows you to reach the wick easily, regardless of the candle's height, to make lighting it easier.
While burning
- Always keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Avoid placing lit candles in areas where they might be knocked over.
- Never leave a candle burning unattended or while you sleep. If you leave the room or go to bed, make sure to extinguish all candles first.
- Avoid touching or moving a lit candle. Don’t shift a candle container when the wax is melted.
- If using multiple candles, keep them at least three inches apart to prevent melting or creating drafts.
- Don’t burn a candle down completely. For safety, stop burning it when there’s about 1 cm of wax left.
- Extinguish the candle if the flame grows too high or flickers frequently. Allow it to cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts before relighting.
- Never burn a candle near anything that can catch fire. Keep them away from furniture, curtains, bedding, carpets, books, and flammable decorations.
- Exercise caution when using candles during a power outage; battery-operated lights like flashlights are safer alternatives.
Once it has burned out
- Avoid using water or any other liquids to put out a candle, as this can lead to dangerous splattering or even break a glass container.
- For safety, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame whenever possible. This method effectively prevents hot wax from splattering.
- Before leaving the room, ensure that the candle is completely extinguished and that no glowing ember remains on the wick.
- After extinguishing the candle, wait until it has fully cooled before touching or moving it.
- Clean the candle holder regularly to remove any wax residue or debris, ensuring safe and even burning.
- Keep the wick trimmed to about 6 mm before relighting to ensure a steady flame and reduce soot.
- Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent warping or melting.
- Avoid burning a candle for more than four hours at a time to prevent the wick from becoming unstable and producing excess soot.
